The Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang on Friday called for comprehensively implementing the laws on food security and increase control over unsafe food, according to an official statement released Saturday.

We must redouble efforts to ensure food security, which is crucial for the protection of human life and improving the living conditions of the population, "said Li Keqiang, at a meeting on food security held Friday Beijing.

He put on this occasion the emphasis on campaigns against foods that do not conform to quality standards, as well as the daily supervision of food production.

The meeting also directed the departments of local governments to work together closely and to improve the food security system.

Moreover, the relevant departments should publish timely information on explicit food security and increase their efforts to create a social environment conducive to food security, participants agreed at that meeting.
